We sat down and asked Nicola a few questions!

Q: Nicola in a nutshell…

”I’m someone who likes being behind the scenes which is why I think I like working in events so much!  I’m a foodie, and most likely thinking of my next meal! Like many I love to travel, experience new places, cultures, food (of course), and 9/10 I will find myself a holiday pet – usually, a cat, which from photo evidence has been a trait since a young age! I can’t wait to get back into traveling and holidaying properly. I really enjoy live music and going to gigs with friends – even though most of the time I can’t see a thing being a shorty!”

Q: What did you want to be when you were younger?

”I never had a set ‘profession’ that I wanted to be as a child. Growing up I was always either doing dance, gymnastics, or trampolining, so for a brief period of time I would say I wanted to be a dancer or gymnast. However, after the countless amounts of trips to A&E and sprained ankles, I think it’s safe to say it’s probably a good job ‘it wasn’t meant to be’.”
Q: Why Events?

”After seeing various marketing and event activities go on at a local college where I worked, I decided that I wanted to try and get into a role where I could get involved with marketing and events. After being told over and over again I needed experience or a degree to get a position within a marketing or events team, I decided to apply for University. I studied Marketing with Events Management in Birmingham, and gravitated more and more to the events side as my degree progressed. Throughout my degree, as I made the decision it was events that I wanted to focus on, I started an internship at a creative agency where I got to work on events like weddings, conferences and local music festivals. Since then I have been lucky enough to work almost continuously in events, working my way up through different industries and sectors and getting to travel and see some amazing venues – which just added fuel to loving the world of events . I’m someone that likes to be hands on, and loves seeing the outcome of the work you’ve done – and events does this! It’s fast paced and can include some long days, but I honestly don’t know what I would be doing if I wasn’t working in events.”
